Want to Close Bigger Deals?

When you are expanding your business, it’s easy to only focus on one thing which is the expansion itself. However, the problem that a lot of businesses face is that they lose sight of some of the other important things such as their employees and the way that they are being treated. We know that expansions are difficult, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t give your employees the exact same thing that you have been giving them all this time. In this article, we’re going to look at some of the things that you should absolutely not do when it comes to your employees when you are expanding. Keep reading if you would like to find out more.

Don’t Overwork Them

First, make sure that you are not overworking them. There are a number of problems with this, the first is that it can lead to burnout. If you are overworking your employees, then eventually they are going to get to the point where they can’t work anymore. They are just going to hit a wall and they are not going to be able to go any further until they have slept for a long time and taken a substantial break from working. The issue here is that you need people to be working at their best consistently. This is why you need to ensure that you are letting them take the breaks they need, don’t make them work overtime if they say that they can’t, and ensure that they are getting enough sleep.

If you are overworking them and they are tired, they are more likely to hurt themselves on the job, especially if their job is a manual one. An injury compensation calculator will tell them how much they are entitled to and you don’t even want to see that number. Instead, just take care of your employees and don’t overwork them.

Don’t Overlook Them

Have you been overlooking your employees in this expansion? You have had a lot on your mind, and you likely had to hire a few more employees to keep up with the new level of demand. If this is the case then you were probably spending all of your time with the new employees, and whatever else was needed to make the expansion work as fast as possible. Don’t forget though that your employees are working just as hard in the thick of things to keep the business running as usual, and sometimes even better. It’s for this reason that you have got to make sure that you are not overlooking your employees.

Make time to speak to them and see how things are going. Check in and ask how they are finding things. Make sure that they still feel appreciated through this time, because you really should appreciate all of their hard work.

Don’t Take Them For Granted

There are businesses out there that just think their employees owe them. It’s true that you pay them to be there and to provide a service for your business, but that doesn’t mean that they owe you anything further. It’s important to understand then that a lot of employees go above and beyond for the businesses that they are working for. If you are a fantastic boss they will work overtime when you need them to, do extra things that aren’t technically part of their job and so much more. If you have these kinds of employees, then it’s important that you are not taking them for granted. Don’t put everything on them simply because you know they will do everything in their power to get it done for you. Don’t abuse the fact that they are willing to do whatever you need as this is how you are going to lose them.

A please and thank you goes a long way with people. Don’t forget these words when you are walking past your employees and asking them to do something or thanking them for something. Remember that although they work for you, the level of work they put in depends on you.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you should not be doing if you are expanding your business. Your employees are a major part of your business, and the last thing that you can afford to do is push them away at the time when you need them the most. We wish you the very best of luck, and hope that you manage to remember this throughout your expansion.
